About Us

The Absent Gallery

The Absent Gallery is a direct response to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Created to help and support artists and galleries during this difficult time by providing a platform to share and promote their artwork using virtual 3d exhibitions and augmented reality technology.

Specifically designed for professional and emerging artists as well as galleries, predominantly from Somerset, but open to neighbouring counties.

The Absent Gallery was created by Abstract Impressionist, John Gammans, who’s own response was to move his exhibitions into a virtual environment and having seen the potential wanted to spread the word and enable others to do the same. John is a professional artist, with curatorial experience for a variety of groups of artists. John’s background is in three dimensional design and graphic design. John is also the Creative Director of a community arts project HCAP in Stoke-sub-Hamdon which had to delay plans for a series of exhibitions. John understands the needs and requirements of artists and galleries on a personal and professional level

The Absent Gallery was created to act as a showcase for artists and galleries but also as a hub for visitors, many of whom would be in lockdown or having to self-isolate, to enable them to visit multiple virtual exhibitions all in one convenient place.

The Absent Gallery is not designed to replace real world galleries, but to offer support during these difficult times. To offer an experience to visitors, something close to a real life gallery but from the comfort of their own homes.
